The History of First Assembly Where We Have Been On February 12, 1922, a group of people met in a home located on Fulton Street in Saginaw, an event that would change the destiny of thousands of people, both in the Saginaw area and around the world. This was the first service ever held by a group that would one day call themselves First Assembly of God Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Having a great heritage with over 80 years of ministry to the Saginaw Valley Community attests to the integrity of our local body of Christ. The sun never sets on the ministries that flow out from this loving Church Family. New churches have been started out of First Assembly including the Latin American Assembly of God, Genessee Gardens Mission, Burt Assembly, Faith Fellowship Assembly of God in St. Charles, Freeland Assembly of God, and Reese Assembly of God. Many Pastors have served Saginaw First Assembly, including Tomas E. Trask, who is the presiding General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God. Fred Smolchuck, Jr. became Pastor in 1976. Thousands of people have come to Christ through the many ministries of First Assembly. For over 20 years, hurting people in the Saginaw Valley have received food, clothing, and the Gospel message through our Total Life Center and Clothed With Love (inner city) outreach ministries. The Cleansing Classes Ministry started by Pastor Fred and Jetta Smolchuck in 1995 has impacted hundreds of churches across the nation and is continuing to spread around the world. It has been translated into German and will soon be available in Spanish. Over 18,000 people have attended Cleansing Retreats conducted by the Ministry Team from Saginaw First Assembly under the direction of Pastors Fred and Jetta Smolchuck and their son, Randal. Corporate Prayer Meetings are the heart that pumps life into the church. All ministries flowing out of First Assembly were birthed and nurtured through these Prayer Meetings. With great joy and appreciation to our Lord Jesus Christ, we celebrate 81 years as a loving Church Family and look forward to the continued presence of God among us. The best is yet to come! To God Be The Glory! |
